色名

英語の色名としてロシアングリーンが初めて使われた記録は1830年代（正確な年は不明）。この用語は、1700年から1914年まで帝政ロシア軍のほとんどの連隊が着用していた中程度の色合いの緑色を指しているようだ。

「Tyrian purple 「は、ラテン語で 」purpura "と表記される色の現代英語名である。他の英語名としては、「imperial purple 」や 「royal purple 」などがある。英語名の「purple」自体、もともとは特定の色「purpura」を指していた。プルプラは古代フェニキア（同時代はレバノン）の都市ティアの海岸で発見された軟体動物から抽出された染料の色であり、古典古代においてこの色は王族と政治的権威の象徴であった。そのため、ティリア・パープルは「皇帝の紫」とも呼ばれた。

グレイッシュ・グリーン（グレイッシュ・グリーン、グレイッシュ・グレイ、エメラルド・グレイ、グリーン・グレイとも呼ばれる）は緑がかった灰色。
