In this recording you can hear book pages being turned manually at a slow but stable rhythm, at the library la fraternitat in la barceloneta. You can hear the page sliding agains other pages, creating a sound that almost reminds us of a knife; and the noise of the page being laid down. At some point there is also the sound of fingers rubbing on the page. Recorded with a zoom h4n pro by kalina and irene, students at esmuc in the framework of the etno3 class.

The peaceful natural recording was made in early march of 2012 in woods bordering a lake. Even though it was late-winter/early spring and was cold -- about 38 degrees -- it was not totally still. These tufted titmice and song sparrows were actively singing as if to say "hey, winter's almost gone, get ready for spring. "recorded onto a zoom h4n recorder using a rode nt-g2 shotgun microphone mounted inside a parabolic dish.

The clip was created using a synsonics "terminator" guitar with a built-in amp by running the output to my sound card and sound card's output going into to a secondary jack intended for headphones on the guitar. It created an interesting metallic noise, almost like a ring mod. . . There is a segment where i was poking the guitar's amp circuit board with my fingers which creates lots of grumbling/squelchy noises. . . The guitar is kind of crappy, but it makes a pretty neat noise synth! :b.

Clean recording of water being poured into a metal pot, meant to emulate the sound of water being poured into a kettle/teapot. Would work for pouring any liquid into almost any metal container (metal containers give off a subtle "twang" that isn't generally produced when pouring into other material containers such as glass, ceramic, plastic, wood, etc). Recorded with an akg p170 into a zoom f8n at 48khz, 24-bit. No processing of any kind applied.

An almost similar snare sound to that of idioteque in radiohead's 2000 album kid a. Though it is meant for experimental style, i think it would work with any form of electronic music. It was created by resonating noise from audacity, filtering it, fading it out, stretching it and compressing it. It has a characteristic sustain to it. Recording of some new year's celebrations in vienna. Captured using a clippy stereo em172 microphone and a zoom h5 handheld recorder. I positioned the microphone capsules outside the window on the left and right and then gently (almost) closed it. I setup the recorder and rolled the whole evening. This bit was around the apex of the celebrations in that part of town. Sadly some clipping occured, but i chose to upload the unaltered file. So no post-processing has been applied. Cut in ocenaudio. This is about 2 minutes total. It is of an approaching long freight train passing about 100 yards away in it's entirety. Train was doing around 45 mph. There are no other background sounds, no traffic, no crossing alarms, no street noise, no airplanes, no people, etc. There are three diesel electric locomotives in the front, then about a mile of freight cars, then one diesel electric locomotive "pushing" from the rear (it almost sounds like a jet engine!). I captured this sound on my canon powershot a460 digital camera. It was a horrible night, with strong winds and heavy rain. I went to my garden shed and positioned my camera at the small window inside my shed as there is a small hole in the right hand corner of the window, and through this small hole the wind blows through it making this whistle sound, almost like a flute. My fifth attempt at a glitch style loop. In order to make the samples used here - most of which are only hundredths of a second long - i took samples from the amen kit, then switch the format from >pcm 22. 050 khz, 8 bit, mono< into >adpcm 11. 025 khz, 4 bit, stereo< then back to >pcm 22. 050 khz, 8 bit, mono< again. I found that if you do this with a sample under 00. 35 seconds long, you get an almost random glitch sound, about. 04 seconds long, that barely sounds like the original sound. I just figured this out, but i'll make note of it; i like some of the effects.

*warning* --- you may want to turn your volume down*this was accidently created when i was goofing around trying to convert an iso file. It was actually for the movie "a beautiful mind". When the conversion started i wanted to see what it looked like so far and this is what i got out of it. I didn't want to delete it because it sounded so cool. . . . A very peaceful, melancholy soundscape i recorded on labor day weekend in some woods, about 20 feet from a popular lake in the midwest. There was a small cove in between my setup and several campers across the way. . . They undoubtedly were enjoying one last time with nature starting to change from summer to autumn. The main sound is that of insects, not sure what the species is, but, they have a beautiful, drowsy "tick-tick-tick" sound that repeats. . . To me, this sound signals the very subtle, almost imperceptible march towards the autumn equinox. I swear, the longer you listen to this captivating insect, you're drawn into, almost like a hypnosis state of reflection. . . A couple things to listen for:(1) around 1:13 a very low splash. (2) at 1:38 a lone goose honks. (3) starting at 2:30 some very low volume, muted camper conversations. (4) at 2:36 a louder splash. (5) 2:41 more beautiful, un-hurried muted camper conversations. No doubt talking about how they need to break camp and return to the real world, but the "tick-tick-tick" of the insects have a strong hold on them. No, stay a little while longer; have another cup of coffee, talk about your accomplishments over the past summer,. This was recorded around 10am on sunday morning, september 6th, 2020 in illinois. Rode nt4 mic with a rycote wind muff on (slight attenuation of the higher frequencies is noticeable to my ears) sitting on a chair under an awning on my porch. I hit record slightly too late to catch the first couple of bell rings, but got most of it. First we hear the church signal 8pm, then we hear the courthouse do the same thing. Also some wind in the trees right above the mic, some rain, a bit of thunder, and some cars in a small town. Also a huge truck with loud engine that sounds almost like thunder towards the end, in fact it was mixed with thunder at one moment. Captured with maudio delta1010lt soundcard.

While working on another audiobook, i decided to make this sound. It's 38 voices, each saying different things, panned around and mixed together, creating a "wall of sound" that speaks like 38 radio channels at once. Recorded with a zoom h2 via usb into ardour2. Mixed and exported to flac with ardour2. Ps: it's all polish (with some possible german shout-outs), but the amount of noise makes it almost completely incomprehensible. Only a few words that are being yelled in a different voice can be understood. No sound repeats here, no recycling - every voice and every second of this recording is unique. Yes, it required quite a lot of work to record so much talking in quality! it's almost an entire audiobook squeezed into 5 minutes. Strangely (or not) listening to this makes my mind rest, because the noise blocks all other sounds from the environment - making my mind free of stimulation, allowing for sleep-like rest state. The signal is so much modulated that it appears to be not modulated at all - like static you get from a fm radio of you tune it wrong. The brain receives less data when you listen to this, than when you sit in a room hearing even faint (but distinct) noises from outside, other rooms, other people or yourself. This is sound masking in action. A very interesting psychoacoustic property of human hearing. Also: this is an interesting material to study of my voice's spectral energy distribution while speaking (as opposed to singing). As you can see using the spectrogram view, most energy is present in the band below 600 hz.

This is a single guitar string plucked with a pick directly at the headstock, that means between the tuners and the nut. There the string is very short and tight, resulting in a high, almost piano-like tone. Also, since there is no sound box, the tone is rather quiet. I used this for a sampler and i liked the sound of it. This is the raw recording. If you want to use it in a sampler too, i recommend adding some eq, reverb and maybe some delay. It is not perfectly in tune though, the closest note is a#. You might tweak the tuning a little bit when using it in combination with other tuned instruments. This is almost the same kick drum i´ve uploaded previously, but this has more compression and overtones in the sub bass, along with an interesting technique i´ve been doing, lemme explain. . . I put the original sample twice in my daw (fl studio if you ask),leave the first sound like it is and the second sample is being equalized in a way that only the sub bass is being showed, so i added to that the saturation plugin ivgi2 from klangheim industries and slammed it with the plugin ott by xfer records about 9 times. Equalized the sound again to cut the sub bass and leave the raw high end sound you hear, finally added an izotope ozone imager to make it wider.

I wanted to prove you could make an 808 bass in tripleoscillator (lmms) without a vst. I've never made hip-hop before. This is not a complete song, so i'm thinking it should be used as a series of loops in something like mixxx:. 0:00-0:07: intro0:07-0:20: loop 1 (fewer hi-hats)0:20-0:34: loop 2 (sprinkly hi-hats)0:34-0:42: loop 3 (just pads mostly)0:42-1:03: loop 4 (basically the same as loop 2 but with arp)1:03-end: outro. I put like zero effort into it fyi so i'm not offended if you don't like it. Also, no need to credit me, in fact, it's so low effort i'd almost rather you didn't ;).

Boring sound. . . Neuron patch (?). . . Inspired by nlc squid axon (i have saved some hp for that one!) i have patched up a simple 2 stage asr with 2 s/h. Most of the time it plays its atonal melody, but when the patch is stimulated (by a sloth lfo) feedback opens up. I can adjust the sensitivity in different ways (so i can simulate the intake of drugs. . . ). The sound from the oscs goes though vcfs with some resonance. The vcfs are controlled by the same sloth lfo. My neuron patch. . . No hands during recording. My favourite part is when nothing happens - for almost 1 min?! but you can hear the filter working via the vcfs. The cv must be in some strange area.

The sound is not as clean as in the virtual one. To some extent i blame my method of recording. . . Different oscillators sound different. Here i use a self oscillating filter. That produces a clean sinus wave. The cleanest sinus in my rack. But i guess the real thing is not perfect and that is what you are hearing? in neither of the patches i use a quantizer. . . (that's art :-)and, i almost forgot, i use a cheap analog delay pedal. Noisy. . .

This was produced by tapping on a stethoscope which had an earbud pressed against a shure sm57 mic. Low pass filter applied, as well as compression and a gate. Chorus added. Used a recording cassette deck as a preamp going into an m-audio audiophile usb soundcard. Note: if you're having problems listening to this clip, the cutoff frequency of your speaker set may be too high(solution: new speakers). The signal strength exists almost entirely in the very low frequencies, so you may need a sub-woofer to hear it. Otherwise, try turning your speaker volume all the way up. Doing so may saturate the signal and at least allow you to hear the harmonics of the signal caused by the distortion. I don't recommend it, but you'll at least maybe be able to hear something.

All surface to air fireworks are illegal but, due to covid-19 cabin fever, people just didn't care this year. This recording is almost 99% voice free. There was a couple on a balcony that are barely heard muttering something in just a minute or two of this recording. For the most part, it's clean. I kept the peaks very low to maintain a natural sound. All of my sounds recordings are provided free of all charges. A peaceful, quiet soundscape recorded in the midwest during covid-19. This includes the nice, soft, gentle song of crickets during the midday. Plus, about halfway through, one of my favorite sounds--even though it is man-made, that of a propeller airplane droning on through the bright, breezy saturday. Recording made on saturday may 9th, 2020 at 3pm in the afternoon. It was made in short grass just off of an asphalt trail, running through a beautiful woods at a very popular state park in illinois. Because of the covid-19 shutdown, the background noise of cars was almost nonexistent. Plus, the grass in the picnic area which surrounded the asphalt trail had not been mowed in a while, which added a nice touch of wild to the place. Equipment: sony pcmd100. Enjoy !.

Here's some more of that young couple next door. For this one, they probably went 15+ minutes. Their libido must be really high for this day/night. From my listening, it seems like they were not doing it in bed the entire time. They must have used other furniture and played around in different positions. From 3:30 or even before that is when they start. Passed 5:00 is when the woman starts to moan loud. 14:55 is when they finish. 16:07 guy says i'm tired. Note that the original audio had more bed and furniture creak noises, almost 30 mins long, and some of their chats cut out. Also note that some of the noises left in on the good parts may not be sex noises. This was edit and shorten with audacity.

Sample of a metallic percussion hit. The sound is quite dark and muffled. I call it underwater drum, because it sounds to me like it's underwater. This sample is tuned to a1 but there is a very dominant overtone at b1, which is the musical interval of a minor second. The source of the sample was the platter of a dismantled hard disk drive, hit with a wooden mallet. It was then pitched down a lot. The sample is almost raw, i just added some slight eq. The sample was intended to be used with a sampler, you may want to add some reverb for this and filter the previously mentioned overtone, when you use it in combination with other tuned instruments. This is a very quick and dirty lo-fi recording of a very unsettling noise i am currently hearing outside of my 2nd story bedroom window. I have no clue what it could be. I have lived here for over a decade and never heard this sound. It's like wind, but it keeps fading in and disappearing again. When it starts, it sounding like very rapid, almost whistling, shallow breathing. I can't imagine what is making this sound, but it's pretty unnerving, and i'm too creeped out to open the curtains. I'm hoping someone can recognize this and tell me what this is because i'm starting to get very uncomfortable after about 10 minutes of hearing this on and off again. I am attempting to record it as it happens, so i've got several recorded instances of this if you want to hear more of it.

A complete trip on métro (subway) line 9 of the paris subway system, from the alma-marceau station to the havre-caumartin station. Starts with descent into the métro station and ends climbing up the steps back out at the destination. One train is allowed to pass, at about the 1-minute mark, as we wait on the platform, and an announcement giving the times for the next trains can be heard. The ride on the following train begins at around the 2-minute mark. There are two loud sounds between about 9:10 and 9:20 and some loud low-frequency wind noise at around 10:40 (as we leave the métro station and return outside), so beware. Recording with zoom h4n, originally 96 khz/24 bits, uploaded as mp3 320 kbps because the wav was so big (almost 500 mb).

This is the original 8-second drum loop that i ran through akaizer for my "sci-fi ambient drone" upload. It's creative commons cc0, so please treat it as public domain. You can use it in any commercial or non-commercial media for free, no restrictions. I took a quick 8-second drum loop from my teenage engineering po-33 (ko) and ran it through a free time-stretching/pitch-shifting program called akaizer. This program is based on old samplers like the akai s1000 that had extremely artifact-heavy time-stretching and pitch-shifting features. If you slow a sound down enough, the final product tends to sound harsh and electric. Akaizer turned my 8-second drum loop into 2 minutes and 38 seconds of harsh, bassy noise. As you can hear from my other uploads, the results are so different it's almost unrecognizable. Definitely worth trying yourself!.

A conversation that happened in the kitchen. Warm for the time of year, a man steps in to play basketball on a corner paved lot. Just one basket and no refs, the two free-throws he is offered are almost unheard-of. Maybe some of them didn't like his looks. Likely too they know what he does for a living. Likeliest of all he was playing well, but for sure the woody that won't quit had come to call, and they probably liked that least of all. So he steps up to the foul line and the first shot zips the net. So does the second one, but even before it gets there, someone jumps in behind him, grabs hard and and zips his pants all the way down. They aren't around his ankles, though. Close one, he's standing on them. Worse, a local crowd has gathered. Only the stunned aren't laughing or pointing or cheering. Pistol fired outdoors with ricochet. Single shot, fairly close, with fast fadeout. Narrow stereo image, no panning, almost monophonic. Wholly synthesized. No weapon was fired in the making of this sound. It's an emulated sound effect of a sidearm gunshot with a cliche ricochet sound, like in the vintage western movies and ww2 films that they showed on tv when i was a kid. Can be used in a game, perhaps, or a none-too-serious vidclip. The sound of the pistol cartridge explosion is default flstudio kick, clap and snare slowed right down. A single tap of delay is added to lend an impression of echo off a middle distance hard surface. The ricochet noise was made with sytrus running as a vsti inside flstudio. It took an entire day of head scratching, oscillator tweaking and envelope mangling to get something that reasonably resembles a sound that i recall from the old movies. I think i'll shoot myself before i try something like this again. :). Plus the usual flstudio compressors, eq, reverb and delay - nothing tricky, just standard stuff.

As our planet becomes increasingly crowded, finding a quiet, natural, tranquil place to listen to pure nature becomes harder. Even in the rural area of deep southern illinois you have to really try hard to find a place where the man-made sounds aren’t everywhere. However, i found just such a place on september 9th, 2012 at the cache river state natural area. This very peaceful recording was made at around 3:00pm in a grassy field bordering a small pond. The pure, droning sound of the insects of late summer make this soundscape almost hypnotic. If you listen closely towards the middle and end of this recording, you can hear the pleasant chipping of sparrows and the not so pleasant call of a crow off in the distance. Recording made with the handy/zoom h4n recorder, using the internal built-in stereo microphones. I mounted my recorder on a small tripod literally 3 inches from the ground so my recorder was actually hidden in the grasses and goldenrods of late summer.

The first sunday of may is the international dawn chorus day! on the 3rd of may 2020, artists and field recordists in different parts of the world recorded the birdsong around the time of the local sunrise, and then the sounds were put together in a synchronous collage. The sounds you hear in the recording at the same time happened at the same time, but not necessarily in the same place: for example, you can hear owls calling in the spanish night at almost the same time as kookaburras in the australian day. . . Inside an intercity express (ice) between stuttgart and mannheim, sitting in an almost empty (three passengers) second-class broad-spaced compartment at around 9 pm. After a shaky first minute an even part follows for around 90 seconds. Interrupted by some road holes the steady sound continues, now with the frequency of the engine sound rising until the beginning of the fourth minute. Here the "main part" begins, starting with several moments of acceleration, deceleracion and breaking. From minute 5:15 to 7:35 the train reaches it's peak velocity, with only few bumps. After a short deceleration the train inceases velocity again, reaching a second peak, this time noticeably bumpier. Once in a while you can hear some element of the fitments rattling nervously along the track, depending on the constitution of the railways and the overall situation. During the last two minutes the train keeps on decelerating slowly and continuously until the end. Recorded in stereo with a portable stereo recorder (zoom); enhanced in audacity using a parallel dynamic eq (tdr nova), a compressor (vos density mkiii) and a binaural spacializer (auburn panagement).

August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on.
