A simple guitar gesture played on a blueridge br-63 with old strings, recorded with a zoom h4n about 8 inches away from and pointed at the sound hole, reduced to mono with audacity. This sound was recorded for the purposes of harmonic + stochastic analysis in xavier serra's coursera class, audio signal processing for music applications.

High e played on an acoustic gibson jumbo. The guitar was recorded with a single microphone (a brauner phantera) connected to an api pre-amp. The signal was fed into a digidesign a/d converter and recorded in protools 9 in waveform audio file format. All the samples were subsequently edited with the gpl software audacity. I'm making a spooky scary video game and needed a "behind you" whisper to play over the shoulder of the player. Late august here in the midwest is the time for the loud choruses of insects. This recording, done in the backyard of a small town, features the classic"ebb and flow and swell" of the dusk insects. Since a park is nearby, you also hear in the background the excited voices of kids playing---maybe these youngsters do realize that soon they will be back in school and that the joyous, careful time of summer play and reflection will soon be over.
