This is the warm up then lift off of an erickson sky crane. It was operating out of the central cascade mountains in washington state, in the us. This helicopter is for fire fighting, and can carry 3,000 gallons of water or retardant to a fire - it's enormous. There are only 31 sky cranes in existence, and in august of 2018 we have two of them fighting fires in our surrounding mountains.

Recorded on an early march morning at a ranch in the rocky mountains of colorado with a zoom h2 using the internal mics. A group of about twenty sled dogs greet a visitor enthusiastically. The higher barks and yips are the siberian huskies and the lower howls and moans are the alaskan malamutes. The dogs were excited and getting ready for a sled ride, their favorite activity (after eating).

This recording, unlike my previous insect recordings, was taken in an actual forrest on south mountain reservation, millburn nj (as opposed to my backyard). There is a distant airplane in the background (south mountain is near newark airport) but otherwise its much cleaner than my previous recordings, pretty much isolating the patch of crickets. ---two primo em172 capsules -> zoom h1.

Moderately flowing stream - jack creek in central oregon's cascade mountains flows out of the ground at the base of three fingered jack mountain. The water comes from a glacier on the mountain a couple of miles from where multiple springs create the large creek bubbling up from the dry ground. This recording was done several hundred feet downstream where the creek was already about 50 wide and only about a foot deep. This sound is of a commercial airliner passing overhead. It was recorded using my zoom h4n stereo field recorder, as i faced east, looking over sun devil stadium in tempe, arizona on top of what they call "a mountain". It was captured around 3:30 in the afternoon, in the spring of 2014, with the airplane due east towards phoenix sky harbor airport, descending on approach.
